Refurbishing of Malatia Primary School

On Saturday 24th September the Management and staff of AutoDis and numerous volunteers took to the road again and this time headed out to Malatia (past Siviry) to help make Malatia Primary School a little more comfortable for the students as part of the FORD Global Month of Caring initiative.

The annual FGMC event is held every September where Ford staff and volunteers around the globe give back to the community on behalf of Ford.

The Malatia Primary School which has only 17 students in total who are taught by the Principal of the school who incidentally is the only teacher of the school was heavily damaged during Cat 5 Tropical Cyclone Pam in March 2015 and had the children being taught in one classroom together due to a second room being damaged.

With very little shade around for the students, we decided to build them a lunch area, replace window frames and louvres, paint the building and toilet blocks and clean up the school compound.

We were pleasantly surprised when the community of Siviri and surrounding areas arrived at the school and proceeded to prepare wonderful lunch of Laplap, pawpaw and fried fish freshly caught that morning by the boys in the village for the staff.

After lunch we continued refurbishing the school and by 3pm we had completed what we had come to do and finished off the day donating Ford School Bags complete with pencils, exercise books, colouring crayons, colouring pencils, a ruler and other items for each student.

We had a fantastic day with the highlight of it all seeing the children’s smiling faces when they received their Ford school bags.

A huge thanks to all our staff and friends that gave up their time to get dirty and give back to those that really need it. Lastly we thank Ford for this fantastic initiative that we are part of for the 4th year running now.

We look forward to more….
